Celebrate Love Data Week (LDW) by joining the UC community for a series of virtual events across campuses from February 8 - February 12, 2021.


This nationwide campaign is designed to raise awareness and build a community to engage on topics related to research data management, sharing, preservation, reuse, and other research data services. Students, faculty,researchers, librarians, and data specialists are invited to attend these events to gain hands-on experience, learn about resources, and engage in discussions around data needs throughout the research process.


All members of the UC community are invited to attend - the UC Love Data Week website lists all events to be held across the campuses. See below for descriptions and registration information for Berkeley affiliated events during this week.


Ethical Considerations in Data

Tuesday, February 9 from 3-4pm


In this one hour interactive workshop, data librarians from UCLA, UCB, and UCSD will host an open discussion around data ethics focusing on case studies of participant data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the social justice components of research. The discussion will also include an overview of related resources available at various UC campuses, including further reading available through the libraries and groups on campus conducting research in these areas.

Cybersecurity for Graduate Students in Research

Wednesday, February 10 from 2-3pm


In this session for Love Data Week 2021, UC Berkeley’s Chief Information Security Officer and Research IT staff will talk about current trends targeting research and campus resources that support not only graduate students but researchers at large. The Information Security Office will also discuss how to secure your devices to keep your information safe.

Getting Started with LastPass & Veracrypt

Join members of UC Berkeley Information Security Office and Research IT in this one-hour session to learn more about password managers and free tools to use in encrypting your devices.

Introduction to High Performance Computing with Savio Workshop

Thursday, February 11 from 3:40-5pm


Research IT is offering an introductory training session on using Savio, the campus Linux high-performance computing cluster. We'll give an overview of how the cluster is set up, different ways you can get access to the cluster, logging in, transferring files, accessing software, and submitting and monitoring jobs. New, prospective, and current users are invited. We will also have several consultants available to help users get setup and answer basic questions beforehand starting at 3:10pm.
