Amazon Web Services (AWS) Storage Services Recurring subscription

Amazon offers multiple kinds of storage that cost different amounts and meet different storage use cases. Please contact RDM Consulting if you are interested in these storage options.

bDrive Free to UC users

A collaborative authoring platform where you can store files and collaborate with a limited number of collaborators. The storage size is unlimited.

Key features include:
Unlimited storage
Share outside UCB
Use of Google’s familiar & powerful authoring tools

Limitations include:
5 TB maximum file size
No FTPS access

Box Free to UC users

A cloud-hosted platform that allows researchers to store and share documents, photos, research materials and other files for collaboration. Box allows users to simultaneously edit Microsoft Office documents. Berkeley Box is available to all current faculty, staff and students, and comes with free, unlimited storage.

CalShare Free to UC users

CalShare is a tool for creating and managing web sites for collaboration purposes. You can easily create and share sites, documents, images, lists, discussions and surveys. CalShare is also approved by the Campus Information Security and Privacy Committee as an appropriate storage location for sensitive or restricted data. CalShare is run as a recharge service for departments.

Cancer Genomics Hub

The unprecedented amounts of data generated require a central location for cancer genomes to be uploaded by geographically dispersed genome sequencers and genome analysis centers. The Cancer Genomics Hub (CGHub) is a central repository for the genomics information for three different National Cancer Institute (NCI) programs, including The Cancer Genomics Atlas (TCGA).

Cloud Archival Storage Solution (CASS) (UCLA) Pay per use

CASS is the Cloud Archival Storage Service provided by UCLA. Though supported by a team at UCLA, CASS is available to researchers at other UC campuses and provides a relatively low cost solution for basic large storage. CASS is described as a "Multi-petabyte scale service for network-based storage". Cannot limit access by individual or group.

Cloud Computing - Virtual Machine Recurring subscription

IST’s Virtual Machine Service leverages VMware’s vSphere 5, offering the highest levels of availability and responsiveness for all applications and services with the industry’s most reliable platform for datacenter virtualization.

DASH Free to UC users

Dash is an open-source, self-service toolkit for managing, openly publishing, and effectively describing data for access and reuse. Dash features geolocation metadata, ORCID, DOI, and FundRef identifiers, and generates a citation for all of your datasets.

Database Services Recurring subscription

For some projects, a relational database is the appropriate environment for research data. IST Database Services supports a range of database services (Postgres, MySQL, SQLServer, and Oracle) as well as consulting. Although many database packages can be installed and run directly, taking advantage of the IST Database Services team can help you:

DMPTool

The DMPTool is an online service for building data management plans with step-by-step instructions and guidance for meeting specific funding agency requirements.

eScholarship Free to UC users

eScholarship provides a suite of open access, scholarly publishing services and research tools that enable departments, research units, publishing programs, and individual scholars associated with the University of California to have direct control over the creation and dissemination of the full range of their scholarship.

EZID Free to UC users

EZID is for generating DOI and ARK long-term identifiers for your digital content. Berkeley researchers can request a free account by emailing researchdata@berkeley.edu.

Figshare Free to public

Figshare is a multidisciplinary repository where users can make all of their research outputs available in a citable, shareable and discoverable manner. Figshare allows users to upload any file format to be made visualisable in the browser so that figures, datasets, media, papers, posters, presentations and filesets can be disseminated. Figshare uses Datacite DOIs for persistent data citation.

IST Performance Storage Recurring subscription

The IST Storage and Backup team provides highly available and highly scalable systems that are offered in two billing tiers: Performance and Utility. Managed storage for high-performance applications.
Hosted in UCB data center (with UCSD backup available). No direct web access.

IST Utility Storage Recurring subscription

The IST Storage Team offers two data storage options depending on what type of access is needed: Storage Area Network (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS). These are both highly available and highly scalable systems that are offered in two billing tiers: Performance and Utility. No direct web access. Managed storage for less I/O intensive needs or less frequently accessed materials.

Merritt repository

Merritt is a cost-effective repository service that lets the UC community manage, archive, and share its valuable digital content. Merritt is an excellent option for users that would like to programmatically submit their data to a trusted, UC-supported data repository.

Open Science Framework Free to public, Free to UC users

The Open Science Framework (OSF) is a free, open source web application that connects and supports the research workflow, enabling scientists to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of their research. Researchers use the OSF to collaborate, document, archive, share, and register research projects, materials, and data.
